What will you learn in the Open Water course and how much does it cost?

The Open Water course is designed to provide you with the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to dive with confidence and safety.

You will learn to handle all SCUBA equipment, understand the fundamentals of diving, and acquire the techniques to handle any situation underwater. This course is divided into two parts: theory and practice.

*You will need to arrive at the dive centre, where we will prepare all the equipment for you. After the dive, our instructors will take care of returning the equipment to the centre, so you won’t need to come back with us unless you wish to.

Theory of the Open Water course

The theoretical part of the course includes reading and understanding 6 chapters, each accompanied by educational videos that make learning easier.

At the end of each chapter, you will take a 10-question test to review the most important concepts.

In addition, you will have the support of an instructor who will clarify all your doubts and reinforce the key knowledge in academic sessions.

Water practice

In confined waters, you will perform exercises to familiarise yourself with the equipment and diving techniques in a safe environment, such as a pool or areas of the sea with similar conditions.

Later, you will carry out 4 open water dives, gradually increasing the depth up to a maximum of 18 metres. These dives will allow you to apply everything you have learned while enjoying the incredible underwater world of Malta.

FAQs About the PADI Open Water course with DS Divers Malta

Yes! We adapt to your schedule so you can start the course whenever suits you.

The theory is designed to be understandable and friendly. Additionally, the videos and the instructor’s support will make learning much easier.

Once the course is finished, you will receive your digital certification within a few days.

The requirements to take the PADI Open Water course are as follows:

  1. Minimum age:
    10 years for Junior Open Water certification.
    15 years for standard Open Water certification.
  2. Physical condition:
    Be in good general health.
    Complete a medical form. If you have any pre-existing conditions, you may need approval from a doctor.
  3. Swimming skills:
    Swim at least 200 metres without a time limit (or 300 metres with basic equipment such as a mask, fins, and snorkel).
    Float or stay afloat for 10 minutes.

You only need to bring a towel, sunscreen, swimwear, and water to stay hydrated.
